Cycling from Xindian (新店) to Tamsui (淡水): A Photo Blog

A few months ago I decided to cycle from Xindian to Tamsui on YouBike. Why? I’m not particularly sure.

Maybe because it’s about the furthest south you can get (on the metro), to the furthest north you can get back from (on the metro). And you can effectively follow the riverside bike path the whole way – which sounds quite nice. Or maybe it’s because I was bored. It was likely a combination of the two.

Either way, it was quite a nice way to spend a few hours. Minus the rain at the beginning, in the middle and at the end. Overall it was about 50km, give or take. Anyway, I thought I’d share a few pictures that I took along the way.

If you’re thinking you’d also like to do this, I’ve included a bit of useful information at the end.

That’s it folks!

Route: Get off at Xindian (新店) MRT and grap a YouBike. Jump onto the east side of the Xindian river at Bitan (碧潭). Follow this north until Xiulang Bridge (秀朗大橋). Cross the bridge. Continue north until you reach Fuhe Bridge (福和橋). Cross the bridge. You’re now back on the east side of the river. Continue north for ages. Use the Zhoumei Expressway (洲美快速道路) to cross from Shillin District into Beitou District – there’s a dedicated bike path on the bridge. Pass Guandu (關渡) and before you know it you’ll arrive in Tamsui (淡水). Continue on to Fisherman’s Wharf (漁人碼頭) if you fancy it.
